Love at first sight. Another dimension of love. (An amazing tale of friendship)

LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT…(A short story)

Becky walked briskly taking small jumps at intervals. She was running late for her best friend’s birthday party. Even though she had a genuine reason for the late arrival, but couldn’t tender the reason to her dear friend. She held a little box in her hand tightly as she ran slowly so as to get to the party on time.
Becky was surprised when she got to the front of Tracy’s house seeing the party was over. All she could see at the porch was party nylon, foam cups, gift wrappers …… as she tried to recover from the shock, the door of the house opened gently and Tracy came out.
The look in her eyes showed anger and disappointment. Her childhood friend just missed her sweet 16th birthday party which they had both planned together.

Becky’s jaw dropped and as she tried to force an apology from her mouth, she saw Tracy walk away with tears in her eyes. Becky ran to the house and knocked at the door but Tracy refused to open the door.
Becky couldn’t go home seeing the countenance of her friend. She sat at the door and untied the bow on the little box she was holding. She peeped inside the box and closed it back again. Her mind flashed back to how she and her best friend had planned the birthday party. They have bought the same outfit for the event. Becky did not know the explanation to tender because she had not been available for a week. She thought she would be able to make up for the week’s disappearance by spending her birthday eve with her, but there she was missing the whole event.
Tracy and Becky were not just best of friends; they were like sisters and since the age of five when they became friends, they have become inseparable.

Becky looked up at the sky as two drops of rain fell on her cheek, it was going to rain. The cloud became darker and the wind started blowing fiercely, blowing the foam cups and party nylon towards her. There and there she remembered that there was going to be a storm on the 20th of April as forecasted. She was surprised as it was 18th of April and it was looking as if the storm would rage. It all dawned on her and fear gripped her.
The sight of her friend’s broken heart came to her mind again, as it broke her heart to see her friend hurt. The storm was starting to rage and Becky knocked at the door fiercely, there was no way she could get home before the storm started, but no one opened the door for her. She was scared and her heart was failing her, she had never being out on a stormy day.
The clouds grew darker and her fears grew larger. She looked around and she saw a small opening at the garage. She ran towards the garage and forced herself through the small opening. The garage was dark, and for the 20 minutes that the storm raged, she felt as if she was the only one in the world.

She flashed her mind back to the week and how she spent it. Becky woke up on the beautiful bright Monday morning and thought of how much she loved her friend Tracy. It was a month after her own 16th birthday, even though her parents couldn’t afford to throw a party for her, she thought of how wonderful it would be for her friend to have one. She peeped under her bed and brought out her save. She emptied it and counted the money with smile. It was her whole life savings and she was ready to spend it all.
Tracy’s love for watches was strong; her closet is filled with lot of watches. Gucci Company has just announced a new ladies watch and Becky knew that new watch was Tracy’s fantasy.
Becky rushed to the mall and went to Gucci store. The sight of the wrist watch was breath taking. She asked for the price of the watch as she looked at the watch and cherished it. The sweet old lady who was attending to her guessed that she couldn’t afford the price, judging from her looks. The attendant wondered why such a girl could be pricing a watch as expensive as that. She wasn’t even wearing a wrist watch herself.
Becky’s heart was broken as she couldn’t afford to buy her friend the new wrist watch. She needed 65 pounds more. The sight of a poster caught her attention as she got to the train station. An old lady needs someone to help care for her cat for a week while she was away. Becky thought of taking the job so as to be able to afford the watch.
Becky counted the money she just earned for her cat sitting and even though the cat was a really naughty one and with her phobia for cats, she has risked her peace to balance for the watch.
Becky walked proudly to Gucci shop at the mall and paid for the watch, even though she knew that after that, she would have no other penny with her.
The attendant was forced to question her as she was about to leave. She couldn’t imagine why a girl like Becky would buy a wrist watch as expensive as that. The attendant asked in a cunning way; young lady why cant you go for a cheaper watch then use the change to buy other things for yourself. Becky replied with all smiles, am actually buying a smile for myself on another’s face. She held the box tighter and left the mall with all smiles. The old lady never understood what she meant.
Becky was happy has the storm was calming down. She squeezed herself out of the garage and went back to the front door and knocked again. This time Tracy opened the door for her. Tracy’s eyes were red as if she had been crying; she hugged Becky tightly and sobbed. I am so sorry I left you out in the storm all alone, am so sorry that I was mad at you, am so sorry. I didn't believe that the storm would rage because the forecast was on the 20th. I am so sorry, she said. I looked round for you when the storm started growing wild but couldn’t find you. I have been praying that God should keep you safe, for me to see you safe again. I am so sorry Becky, she said amidst sobs. Please forgive me.
Becky parted her sweetly and all she could say was Tracy I love you. She let herself loose from the hug and gave her the little box she was holding. Tracy was shocked, she covered her mouth in amazement and she sobbed as she untied the box gently. Her heart was racing; here is a girl she just locked out in the storm who is still as sweet as ever, she didn’t decide to get angry and go home with her gift, she stayed till the storm was over, told her she loved her and still gave her a gift.
Tracy opened the box and she screamed in amazement. I can’t take this from you Becky, I don’t deserve it. I locked you out in the storm and you are giving me this? It’s so beautiful, it’s my fantasy but I don’t deserve it. I haven’t been a good friend to you Becky, you don’t even have a watch but I have lot of watches, and here you are giving me a watch that can buy all my watches.

Becky held her hand and said, that is what love does. Tracy I love you and it has been love at first sight.
Tracy broke down in tears as she held the box to her chest. Becky am so sorry, I think am ready to follow the path you are on. If you can sacrifice your life savings, risk your life to give me the gift I do not deserve also show me this great act of love, I believe JESUS would do much more for me.
………………and that was how Tracy got saved through an act of genuine love showed by her friend.
1 John 3:16 hereby perceive the love of God for us, by laying down the life of his only begotten son: and we ought to follow suit by laying down our lives for our brethren.
Let your life preach CHRIST.
Jesus gave us life so that we can have life and have it more abundantly we all deserve this great gift of love.
