David Omodunmiju is a Nigerian christian music minister that mined the gold of his music from a deep and separated love for God. This inspired song writer(song receiver as he fondly calls himself), started his musical journey early as a child around the age of 13 in the church, with a sensational acapella group called Brothers Of Zion. As the 5th runner up of the MTN Project fame season 2, He was brought to the faceof many lovers of inspirational and edifying music in 2013, when he released the prayer song for every Christian at this time, "Teach Me To Be Strong" which was No.1 on the Christian Music Chart (Nigeria) on the ReverbNation website for close to 2years.
David is also the convener of the Uncharted Territory Worship Concert led by the NeWine Music Team, and the leader of the #theHEARTIST wordsmith group.
He was recently signed to the Honesty Music (a consciously christian record label) in September of 2016 under whose umbrella he re-released the great body of work called the One-Man Journey (hands on the plough).
David Omodunmiju partners with the Holy Spirit to testify Jesus and edify men with the tool of music.
He is also married to Dewunmi Omodunmiju and has a beautiful daughter called Olive..who is surprising is One today"
I would be sharing with you how David Omodunmiju and His beautiful wife taught me timeless lessons.
I didn't know David Omodunmiju personally, but one day while scrolling through my Facebook account, I saw a post by Dewunmi Omodunmiju. I never knew that I was friends with her. I have this good habit of going through my friends friend's list on Facebook and scouting for friends. Once I see people that have like minds with me, people that can challenge me to be a better person and most importantly people that I can learn from, I send them friend's request.
Even if there friends list is full I get to follow them. Lol
So that day, I saw a post that she shared about David Omodunmiju's new album - One man journey.
I sent him a friend request immediately and I sent him a message on Facebook too that I wanted to write about him on Greens magazine blog.
A greater percentage of my interviews if not all are always done via different social media platforms. And I was so happy that he responded swifty.
Lesson learnt- As a minister, a star, whoever you are don't be too busy for your audience.
He replied my Facebook messenger message. Honestly I was dazed because I thought even if he was going to reply , maybe after 6 months lol. He took out time from his busy schedule and replied me.
David Omodunmiju wasn't reluctant to give me his WhatsApp contact and he replied my message promptly and politely.
Lesson learnt- learn to have an open mind and stop being paranoid. Treat everyone you have the chance to meet as special.
My old phone was giving me issues and I had to delete some things on it and I mistakenly deleted the voice note he sent to me. The voice note contained answers to most of the questions I asked him.
I was so sad and disappointed in myself, what kind of editor am I , I asked myself.
I summoned up some courage and I sent him a message and wow, he resent the voice note.
Lesson learnt - be patient with the people you come across. Deal with everyone in love. Put yourself in other people's shoes and look at things from their angle.
Step down from your high tower and humble yourself.
So, I listened to the voice note again and I started working on the article, then I paused on it due to some reasons, but I won't bore you with that.
And you won't believe that I changed my phone without backing up any of the answers he had sent to me, both the ones as word and the voice note again. Oooops.
I was having some emotional issues, lol. I have those moments too and I forgot backing up David Omodunmiju's messages.
Action I took while having that emotional moment
I downloaded teach me to be strong by David Omodunmiju and I listened to it over and over again and the words met my needs. And I had the strength to go on my knees and pray and the burden was lifted.
After I prayed I felt peace like a River.
Lesson learnt - never let your emotions control you. Always take it to God in prayer.
I sent him message again and told him how I lost the messages. He tried sending in the voice note again but he couldn't find it. He was still very calm and patient with me. So I asked him to send the typed version and he did, he even took time to chat with me.
I was so happy. As in , a super star is giving me attention. Wow
Lesson learnt - have long-suffering.
Be like Jesus who gives us new chances every moment. Renew your mercy tank everyday.
David Omodunmiju told me that when he went in for MTN Project fame, he was himself. He wasn't trying to impress anybody.
While others were competing to be the winner of MTN Project Fame season 2, he was battling not to lose his faith for fame... For David Omodunmiju, it was 2 competitions in One...his faith and His music
Admits his busy schedule I still receive inspiration quotes regularly from him with the hashtag #theHeartist.
Lesson learnt- always be yourself. And never deny your faith for fame because its your faith that will keep the fame. Remember all good and perfect gifts comes from God
The first time I messaged David Omodunmiju was March 19 2017 and he replied me March 20 2017.
And here am I just posting the article 4 months later and within those four months he was cool, calm, and collected.
Lesson : perseverance is the key. This made me remember my Primary school's motto : Persever to Succeed. Always learn to persevere , it will eventually pay.
Let me share with you what I learnt from Dewunmi Omodunmiju.
I actually sent her a message too that I wanted to write about David Omodunmiju. I didn't know that she was his wife though.
She replied few days later with a love emoticon. As at then I had already been granted the interview by David Omodunmiju himself.
But she did something that I can never forget, on May 19 she sent me this through Facebook messenger
' the Lord will prosper your works and your posts shall be arrows in God's hands to inspire n change lives. Well done sis... Went through your blog..'
I was so so happy, those words came when I least expected them. Those words encouraged me.
Dewunmi Omodunmiju is the type of woman that defines the Phrase ' behind every successful man, there is a woman '
