 Meet Ashura Micheal  








Ms.Ashura Michael  is a young promising lady,Her numerous achievements in life is a drive that tells the world that Disability is not an excuse for inability.Her experience truly represents the life of a Deaf person in Kenya. She is an ambitious lawyer in making, passionate in advocating for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Kenya.




Ashura Micheal is a human rights and Gender activist. She has attained her Diploma in law at IU in Nairobi ,Certified from University of Illinois Urban-Champaign with Civil Leadership certificate  was also certified with Political ,Leadership and governance program by Fredrich Ebert Stiftung in 2015.She is currently a 4th year  student of the University of Nairobi ,studying   Gender and Development.

 She is a member of "young Voice" a Leonard Cheshire Disability project to supports young people with Disabilities to campaign for disability rights and equal access.She also serves as the outgoing co-chair for Youth Council of UNICEF’S  Global Partnership on Children with Disabilities.Ashura has  served as the secretary general of Kenya National Association of the Deaf youths section ,She was a Gender and social Inclusive officer at Peace Ambassadors Integration Organization for 2 years  and a Special Interests Representative of Youths Synergy Kenya.



This lady with a promising future has also served in a good number of national and international organizations.



Ms.Ashura has taken part in many campaigns activities: including leading a group of young voices campaigners to advocate for Sign Language Interpretation services during news segments on television she also campaigned for materials in Braille for the blind people and many services for persons with disabilities.

She tried to help ensure that Persons with Disabilities in Kenya enjoy the same rights as other citizens.
Apart from those responsible she is also a co_founder and Director of "Free A Girl’s World" A Network that aims to empower the Girl Child to Explore her World Freely Without Social-Cultural and Economic Boundaries she has run several projects including mentorship program,distribution of free sanitary pads to keep girls in school and Shoe For kids .
She won a Peace Ambassador medal as 2014/2015 outstanding leader.

She was also appointed as a commissioner for Developing countries During the World Congress of the Deaf in Istanbul,2015.

         Ms Ashura was crowned "Miss Deaf" Kenya 2013/2014 

 A Mandela Washington fellow 2016 and she travels around the world sharing information about Persons With Disabilities ,women and assuring young girls with disabilities that disability should not get in the way of achieving their dreams.
Having such experiences, she has always felt, from an early age, the need to engage with the minority groups in society, the need to speak out for the oppressed, the urge to fight for those who can’t fight and represent not only the disabled in Kenya but her entire country. For this reason she has involved herself in ODM political activities to make sure that  Persons with Disabilities are not left by serving the party selfless until the Disability League was launched in November 2016..
